Marketing Techie is a knowledge content Web site. Our mission is to deliver an information digest of entrepreneurial thinking and practice, market creation, innovation, and their impact on marketing practice, culled from free sources on the Internet. Our target audience is academicians, managers, consultants, and public policy administrators in high tech/Internet industries. Our value proposition is the regular collection and structured delivery of timely and concise mission critical information. We scan the Internet for data that are relevant for our target audience and write a brief paragraph summary of that data such that the most important points are noted and there is a sense of closure. Readers with greater interest can drill down by jumping to the original source. The Founding Origin

Marketing Techie was created by Glenn Omura as an Internet vehicle for mtechie. mtechie is a weekly “push” eletter that generates the primary content for MT. mtechie was published by Glenn from 1996 until September 2014 and is based on a list originally developed by him, called emeig. emeig was the Electronic Marketing and Entrepreneurship Interest Group eletter. emeig was founded as an association newsletter focused solely on entrepreneurship, but has dramatically evolved into mtechie and now covers a wider scope. emeig/mtechie has been continuously published on a weekly basis since 1997. MBA and undergraduate students at Michigan State University helped to create the MT Web site.

In September of 2014 the responsibility of publishing the newsletter was handed to Michael Bowers at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  A conversion to WordPress blogging software occurred at this time. MBA students at Embry-Riddle contribute greatly to the production of the newsletter/blog.

Positioning & Philosophy

In MT and mtechie, entrepreneurship is defined broadly, following the Schumpeterian scope. A key factor in the definition of entrepreneurship is innovation. The creation of “new” and the impact of innovation, particularly technological innovation on markets is a primary focus of the newsletter/blog.

Under Glenn’s editorship, web marketing was highlighted. The cyberworld is the quintessential example of the nexus of marketing and entrepreneurship and includes how markets are created (whether by individual entrepreneurs, technology, product or organizational innovations, industry structural shifts, consumer lifestyle changes, etc.). While web marketing will continue to be covered, as the newsletter continues to evolve other areas of technological innovation, such as the commercialization of space, will receive coverage.

Revenue Model

No advertising is accepted at MT or mtechie. The plan is to acquire funding via sponsors. If you would like your organization to sponsor MT or mtechie, please contact Michael Bowers at bowersm1@erau.edu. A limited number of sponsors is planned to give sponsors high visibility and control sponsor banner clutter. Further revenues will be targeted by using MT/mtechie as a traffic draw for research and consulting projects that will be implemented by students at ERAU, and supervised by professors.

Mike is a professor of entrepreneurship at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).  He teaches undergraduate and graduate course work in entrepreneurship and occasionally services marketing.  Mike is also working on establishing a center for technological entrepreneurship at ERAU.  A bio on Mike may be found here.

Anas Mustafa

Anas Ali Mustafa is an MBA graduate specializing in Finance and Aviation, graduating in May 2015. He is currently the associate editor/publisher of Marketing Techie, as well as a Student aide to Micheal Bowers. He is currently looking for an internship and is looking forward to advancing his career in Aviation and Finance following graduation. Glenn Omura

Glenn is an associate professor at Michigan State University.  After a distinguish career as a                   professor Glenn has decided to try his hand at academic administration and currently serves as Acting Associate Dean for MBA and Professional Master’s Programs in the Eli Broad College of Business

1.Information Marketing Techie Gathers and Tracks.

MT gathers contact information when a visitor voluntarily subscribes to mtech; we do not collect Web site tracking information, such as traffic patterns, IP addresses, type of operating system or browser used. No cookies are delivered to your system. When surveys are run, some demographic information is sometimes collected. This demographic information may be shared with sponsors of Marketing Techie for funding reasons in order to keep the site and eletter free; all data are aggregated and no specific information on any individual is shared with third parties.

2. Sharing Information.
As noted above, we do not share individual information with third parties unless individuals opt-in beforehand. Opt-in, or the visitor giving express consent to divulging individual data, may be offered to the visitor under certain circumstances, such as in contests and sweepstakes. MT does not control the practices of any sponsors or organizations that are hyperlinked in MT or mtech. You will need to contact them directly if you want to know how they use personal information.

3. Correction and Updating Policy.
Subscribers have the option of correcting or changing any information collected from them by contacting MT.

4. Opt-Out Policy.
Visitors have the option not to provide personal information whenever asked. As noted above, IP addresses and other personal information is not collected or tracked.

5. Deletion and Deactivation Policy.
Subscribers may unsubscribe to mtech at any time, following the directions at the end of every issue of mtech.
